Development of bioconjugates as therapeutic agents for ageing-associated diseases

Description

The risk of developing certain diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases increases with age. Therefore, development of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for ageing-associated diseases is of particular interest. The major goals of the present project are the design, synthesis and biochemical characterization of bioconjugates as therapeutic agents for cancer and Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Targeted chemotherapy has been developed to overcome the drawbacks associated with the application of free anticancer drugs. In the present work, gonadotropin-releasing hormone-III with own antiproliferative effect will be employed as targeting moiety for the preparation of anticancer drug delivery systems for targeted chemotherapy.

Amyloid-ß (Aß) peptide which plays a key role in the pathogenesis of AD represents an important target for therapeutic intervention in AD. Based on the identification of the epitope recognized by physiological human Aß-autoantibodies, bioconjugates containing this epitope peptide will be prepared as potential diagnostic/immunotherapeutic agents for AD.
