Turkish-German and German children with and without Specific Language Impairment (SLI): A Neurophysiological Study.

Description

Previous studies have shown that the MMN, a component of the auditory event-related potential, is sensitive to differences in auditory discrimination between children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI) and typically developing children as well as to differences in the phonetic inventory between native and non-native speakers. 6-8% of all children are affected by SLI, therefore it must be assumed that 6-8% of all multilingual children are affected by SLI as well. In Germany, one of the largest groups of multilingual children are Turkish-German children. The aim of this study is to investigate multilingualism and SLI in Turkish-German children at the neurophysiological level by using linguistic and non-linguistic stimuli.
