NMR assignment and characterization of protein dynamics of the NA+NADH dehydrogenase (NA+NQR)

Description

The Na+-NQR is a large membrane-bound protein complex composed of six subunits which plays a pivotal role in the energy metabolism of the human pathogen Vibrio cholerae. Driven by oxidation of NADH it generates an electrochemical Na+ gradient across the membrane. Its 3D structure is still unknown as is the mechanism by which NADH oxidation is coupled to sodium translocation. The long-term goal of this research project is to characterize structure, dynamics and function of Na+-NQR in collaboration with Prof. J. Steuber, University of Hohenheim, by combining molecular and cell biology techniques with NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography.
