Optical and electronical characterization of photoswitchable molecules for applications in nanoelectronics

Beschreibung

In this doctoral research project a systematic study of photoswitchable molecules is performed. The molecules under study belong to the class of difurylcyclopentenes that undergo a ring-opening/ring closure transformation upon irradiation with UV or visible light. We test which of these molecules bind reliably to metal electrode sand are still active when bound to a metal surface. To this end we investigate self-assembled monolayers of these molecules and investigate them by surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, ellipsometry and scanning probe techniques. The most promising molecules are then used for electronic transport measurements.
