SFB TRR 161 TP Ö Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Communicating scientific projects to the public has been gaining more and more importance in recent years. For large collaborative projects, in particular, there is an increasing demand for justifying why a certain research area is supported by significant resources and which kind of results were achieved. The TRR 161 - with its tight connection to visual representations - is ideally suited to communicate the activities to the public because results can be shown in form of images, videos, or interactive computer applications.
The main goal of our public relations activities is to inform about recent research developments in visual computing and its impact on society and every-day life. We plan to address different groups of audience: general public, professionals, university-affine audience, school students, and the scientific community. To this end, a variety of means of public relations will be followed up. Electronic communication platforms in the form of Web and social media will be one component of our public relations presence, complemented by addressing traditional press media and contributing to popular science publications. Furthermore, several short films will be produced for public relations. This project will also coordinate the participation of the TRR 161 in various university-organized events, such as open houses. Another goal is to reach out to school students, which will be supported by contributing several kinds of workshops, presentations at “Kinder-Uni”, providing opportunities for internships, and related activities. Finally, we see popular science and artistic exhibitions as intriguing ways for public relations for visual computing research.
