Conceptual Spaces, Reasoning, Argumentation

Beschreibung

Following Gärdenfors (2000) the project applies conceptual spaces to model transitions between information states. A basic assumption is that human reasoning and argumentation can be understood as manipulations of spatial representations. Project outcomes demonstrate the fruitfulness of modelling human reasoning and argumentation geometrically, and shed new light on problems in extant formal and informal approaches. This addresses the lack of integration between informal work on argumentation in communication, rhetoric, or argumentation-studies, and formal work on reasoning in philosophy, psychology and cognitive science, where the focus has been on substance or structure, respectively.
