Evolution and speciation in fish

Description

Broadly I am interested in the fields of evolutionary biology and population genetics. I aim to contribute to these fields because I believe they are important for improving our understanding of speciation, which in turn has implications for appreciating the level of biodiversity in a system. Currently I am looking at the evolution of different fish species in two different study systems. First, I am investigating the genomic events underlying within species colour differences in the Neotropical Midas cichlid complex. Second, I am studying the role of hybridization in the evolutionary history of Xiphophorus, small freshwater fish endemic to Meso-America.
