Redirections. New migrations from West Africa and Southern Europe into Latin America
This project explores the redirections of global migration flows. Migrants from West Africa, in the past mostly destined to Europe and North America, now seek new horizons in countries in the southern hemisphere. At the same time, Southern Europeans, affected by the economic crisis and often migrating to nothern European countries, also (re)discover destinations in the 'south'. The project addresses questions of how these redirections are organised, which kind of migration infrastructures they rely upon, and what the distinctiveness is of the migrations, depending on their origin, but also upon other factors such as race and class. Ultimately, the project will look into the social dynamics along the migration process and at the new destinations.
