Lexical and Syntactic Processes in Language Comprehension

Description

The project focuses on the notion of incremental sentence comprehension. Evidence from the first phase of the project shows that the late availability of the verb in German does not delay syntactic processing. In the second phase, we plan to extend the existing evidence by using more sophisticated experimental methods (recording of eye-movements, auditive experiments). In addition, we plan to model the existing data, as well as the data to be obtained in phase two. Modeling will include both cognitive modeling of the syntactic processes during language comprehension, as well as modeling of the underlying competence grammar.
