Specification of Lexical Semantics through Discourse Relations

Description

The project explores links between lexical semantics and discourse relations. In particular, the project focuses on how underspecified lexical semantic representations can be further specified (disambiguated) via information coming from the rhetorical relation structure of a discourse. The theory underlying the investigation is SDRT (Segmented Discourse Representation Theory; Asher 1993, Asher and Lascarides 2003). The data studied include psych verbs, intentional verbs, light verbs like English have and the related get constructions in comparison with the German kriegen 'get' constructions.
