Quantum Dots Spins in High-Q Optical Resonators: Spin Meets Cavity QED

Description

The aim of this project is to study the ultrafast spin dynamics of electrons and excitons in semiconductor quantum dots that are embedded in optical cavities in the strong coupling regime. II-VI materials, such as CdSe or ZnO are investigated due to their large exciton binding energy and high confining potentials. Therefore, the possible operation of these devices at room temperature may be envisioned. Magnetically doped quantum dots with large Zeeman splittings are used to address single dots in the same microcavity by spectral selection. Subsystems of a few quantum dots in single cavities may be connected by photonic waveguides.
