Novel nanostructure probes in electron spin resonance

Description

Using site-specific attached spin probes, electron spin resonance (ESR) can contribute to determination of structure and dynamics of systems not exhibiting long-range structure. Within the current project novel methods are to be developed in order to unravel more complex structures and processes. For this purpose, nanostructure probes are used which are not only detectable by ESR, but additionally addressable by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and optically. Particular objectives are increased selectivity and an enlarged window of accessibility for structural informations in the nanometer range. The new techniques are to be used particularly for studying membrane proteins but are expected to offer a much broader range of applications.
